INFORMATION:
Our goal is to provide enough information for each of you visiting this Web site that you will become comfortable discussing the current state of annexation laws in North Carolina and their applications here in Buncombe County.  Most notable and relevant at the local level is the January 2006 North Carolina Supreme Court decision in the case of “Nolan vs. the City of Marvin”.  This ruling provides a very strong legal precedent that the City of Asheville should take into consideration prior to their continued pursuit of the forced annexation of Biltmore Lake and other areas targeted for forcible annexation that are not in need of City services.

***

To remain current on local events, please visit our Local Update page which includes the “Resolution of Intent to Annex Biltmore Lake.”  Another tool that is coming soon is our Calendar of Events (under construction) page which will highlight City Council agenda items relating to our cause, “phone City Council” days, “send a letter” days and other local engagements that you may want to attend (for instance, a chance to meet Representative Thomas who introduced the annexation reform legislation (House Bill 86) on behalf of Buncombe County and other guest speakers).

For more general information, please visit our Additional Reference Web Sites page.  This page contains information on other organizations’ Web sites, such as the Fair Annexation Coalition (FAC), a group with whom we have recently associated and StopNCAnnexation, another state-wide grass roots organization that has been instrumental in helping to support annexation reform at the State level.  It also contains information on the North Carolina League of Municipalities (a political, lobby group who advocates forced annexation), in addition to many other very informative links.

***

There are numerous annexation reform related House and Senate Bills being introduced this legislative session.  For a current list, please visit our Current Legislation page.  For information on how to contact the Mayor, Vice Mayor or any of the City Council members, visit the Asheville City Council page.  If you’d like information on contacting our County Commissioners, you can visit the Buncombe County Commissioners page, and if you’d like information on contacting local Representatives and State Senators and any other issue-friendly legislators, you can visit the North Carolina State Representatives page.

COMMUNICATION & INSPIRATION:  We intend to provide a forum that fosters communication between citizens and those who represent us, both at the municipal level and the State level.  We hope to facilitate this interaction by making it easy for you to contact local and State representatives to let your voices be heard.  By providing you with enough information to become reasonably educated on the issue of forced annexation and by making it easy for you to communicate with your local and State representatives, we hope to INSPIRE you to contact each and every one of them!  We believe people who become educated on the issue will reach similar conclusions about the injustice of forced annexation and will do their part to help get annexation reform legislation passed into law.
